WORLD RECORDS

You may never wish to pursue world records or catch a blue marlin on fly, but it's nice to know that, in Vanuatu, your boat and crew is fully equipped and capable of handling and landing record fish when you get one on.

Often, the first anglers to seriously fish a new destination are IGFA record hunters. Their goal focus entails copious research and planning. They know they have to be in the right place at the right time for sufficient shots at their chosen trophies and they know they must have only the best of equipment, seamanship and deck experience at their service. That's why they come to us.

By early 2003, a total of nine world records had been taken from Vanuatu waters. Eight of these were achieved by clients guided by Dean Butler. The records have included the largest wahoo ever taken on fly - a monster of 70 pounds on 16 pound tippet - and two dogtooth tuna on ultra-light 2 and 4 pound tackle.

A serious chase is underway for the grand prix of blue marlin world records on fly and ultra light tackle. The big ones are here in Vanuatu, and several of the record hunters have hooked these mighty blues and even looked them in the eye, only to be closely beaten. It is only a matter of time before the old records tumble to Vanuatu blues - and the fish will be taken by clients of Kahuna Charters.
